Obviously the detail that makes this photo special is that one lonely red tulip awash in the sea of yellow. Finding this anomaly was no random accident. I knew that this occurred, and I even had this photo visualized in my mind before I flew to Washington. I actively set out and hunted for this specific genetic renegade as soon as I arrived in Skagit Valley. And it didn't take long to locate my "target."

Again, preparation and a little research and realistic anticipation can help increase the number of memorable shots in one's portfolio--but ultimately everything still comes down to Providence.
