Acadia
National Park is a bit different from the national parks
of the American West. Instead of having rugged natural beauty
take centerstage by itself, within Acadia it is the combination
of both manmade creations intertwined with the natural scenery
that makes this park so charming. Acadia typifies the best that
Maine and Northern New England have to offer: rounded mountains,
a rocky scenic coast, several working fishing villages, and lighthouses.
It is also different from other parks because it is eminently
accessible by car, by bicycle, by kayak, and even by horse. And,
of course, the hiker can find a multitude of trails from which
to choose to admire the expansive views.
And
don't forget the impressive New England autumn colors which add
yet another dimension to the local grandeur. So make the trip
to Mount Desert Island, savor a good meal and a great beer in
Bar Harbor, and explore the spot where the Appalachian Mountain
chain meets the Atlantic Ocean.
